Red Hearts

A good day. Got up. Played an old computer game for an hour or so. Visited with a friend for a while. Plotted fiendishly. Watched Saw II. Went shopping and ate tacos. The weather is startlingly, springishly balmy and the birds were all a-chirp. Went for a walk and the wind was strong. The moon was big, low, and yellow and I listened to Nights in White Satin on my faux-ipod thingie. It's all good. I think a thunderstorm is coming. That'd be good, too.

I was ruminating earlier how I always liked Valentine's day as a child. Oh I didn't care anything for the romance bit, just the colors. I liked the red and pink hearts, the faux-satin colored candy boxes. But not the cupids. I hate those things. Which Renaissance genius was it that turned one of the highest orders of angels into fat, winged babies, and how the heck did they get turned into an icon for an ancient god of erotic love? Ah well. Anyway, I like the red hearts. I even use a Valentine's theme for my aol wallpaper. Hmm.. now that I think about it, I think I learned to write my name, sloppily, for signing those little valentines cards for school.

Evil Dolly's Movie Recommendation of the Day: I just saw the neatest movie today. It's called Mirrormask. It's a journey through a dream written by Neil Gaiman and done by the Henson company. Kinda like Labyrinth, in a way. The plot is sort of simplistic, but the imagery was just awesome to me.

The tortured squealing of nails

Work started on my playroom today. Well, more like destruction. All the trim and some wood panelling from the 70's was taken down, and the old carpet removed. Now there's a framework of studs between the two small bedrooms. It looks bigger already.
And yay! It snowed! Big, fat fluffy flakes. The ground was too warm for it to stick, except on the grass, but it powdered the tops of roofs and tree branches nicely. It came down pretty heavily too, for a couple of hours. I just sat and watched it and read a book. It felt very wintery. Alas, that'll probably the only snow this year.

What's new

Not much. Let's see. My yard guy surfaced again, so I got the leaves finally taken care of. Except, in the process of moving things around to better blow leaves, they shattered my birdbath. Didn't leave a note or anything. I'm not terribly heartbroken, as it was just an old concrete thing about 25 years old, but that's just rude. I wonder how they shattered concrete on dirt? I never had any water in it, since that's just mosquito heaven around here, and there's enough of those to begin with. Maybe I should get a sundial. Those don't breed mosquitos. Did you know a 'wabe' is the grass plot around a sundial?

It looks like I might finally have someone able to do my playrooms like I want. Will have to see how it turns out. I got more pink pillows today. I've gotta stop doing that. A person needs only so many pink pillows, then it just becomes superfluous. Oh yeah, I also got a drill and installed a nice heavy ring bolt in the dark space under the stairs. Good for a time out, or for some quiet introspection. Dusty, dark introspection. Yay!

Hmm, what else. The weather has still been far too warm. I don't think I'll see any snow this year. There were some flurries scheduled for this week, but I guess it got cancelled. I rented that Wallace and Gromit movie, but I didn't get to see how it turned out. It stopped working halfway through. I read the new Stephen King book, Cell. Interesting enough plot, but it could have been better. Just seemed like there were a lot of missed opportunities in there to get really creative. But who am I to critique a famous writer? I write how to guides for pet zombies, so I'm in no place to judge. Ooh! I got a Corpse Bride doll today. She's so cute.
